Here and Now, the Life of a Farmer

Med Pearls Project

Most models of tourism in the Mediterranean area are based on mass tourism and follow a fragmented vision of the region as a sum of different markets. Med Pearls aims at internationally positioning the Mediterranean as a unique and integral destination to experience the Med lifestyle through SlowTourism (ST), inviting travellers to discover sustainably and responsibly new destinations while taking time to have direct contact with local communities. The project will deliver a set of 26 new ST products created by local Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and ICT enterprises thanks to financial and technical support called Product Development and Innovation Facilities.

Itinerary

All year round

In La Pobla de CĂ©rvoles you can buy local products at the town’s co-op.

Here, you’ll go on a short walk to the Vinya dels Artistes open-air museum at Mas Blanch i JovĂ©, a family winery where you can take a stroll through the so-called artists’ vineyard, with sculptures and installation artworks set amidst grapevines and olive trees. Time for the activity to experience and understand the entire process of winemaking with a guided tour of the winery, from the vats and barrels to bottling. The tour will end with a wine and olive oil tasting.

In L’Albi, where you’ll stay at a charming municipal motorhome site. Time to visit the centre of this quiet village and do some shopping at the farmers’ co-op. In the evening, you’ll have dinner at local restaurant. Here, you’ll sample Catalan dishes made with seasonal and local produce.

Guided tour of the winery and wine and olive oil tasting and  dinner at local restaurant included.

Time to head west along small roads to Cervià de les Garrigues. It won’t take much time before you’ll find the Les Cometes estate, a small family farm that produces premium-quality extra virgin oil right in the heart of nature.

Guided tour to get a peek at the biodynamic olive oil production process and a tasting of the olive oils that the small producer makes. We recommend a self-guided tour of the estate afterwards to enjoy its peaceful surroundings.

You’ll enjoy too an exclusive breakfast featuring local products in the estate’s olive grove.

Guided tour of the estate and olive oil tasting at Les Cometes and breakfast featuring local products included.

Free day to explore the area of Arbeca or simply relax in this peaceful place. You can visit the castle of Arbeca and the co-op to buy local products directly from producers.

On the way to Juneda, you can stop by Les Borges Blanques. You can leave the motorhome in the municipal motorhome site and walk from there to the old town of Les Borges Blanques. Whenever you’re ready, drive straight to Juneda, where a very special farm experience awaits you.

Enjoy this farm, as well as its farm animals and wild animals. Most of them are animals native to the area from a recovery centre as they could not be successfully reintroduced back to their natural habitats.

Do an activity on the farm and have lunch. You can go back to the motorhome whenever you want.

Entrance ticket to the La Manreana farm experience included.

Day for a tour of the Olive Oil Museum of Catalonia. Olive oil was produced on its facilities using an ancient oil mill which is the best-preserved one in the region. At the end of the tour, you can buy local products at the co-op. Before heading out, you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Bovera Valley.

Continue along the zig-zag road to Bovera, which is found nestled within the valley.

You’ll take a guided tour of the Bovera Valley. Some areas of this valley are experiencing an economic reactivation, with the creation of organic products alongside the promotion of the conservation of agricultural, landscape, natural and cultural heritage. This way, during the guided tour of the valley, you’ll come across traditional architectural elements that have been restored and get a first-hand look at organic farming and the biodiversity project featuring Catalan donkeys (‘rucs’) in place.

Entrance ticket and visit to the Olive Oil Museum of Catalonia and Guided tour of the Bovera Valley included.
