Most models of tourism in the Mediterranean area are based on mass tourism and follow a fragmented vision of the region as a sum of different markets. Med Pearls aims at internationally positioning the Mediterranean as a unique and integral destination to experience the Med lifestyle through SlowTourism (ST), inviting travellers to discover sustainably and responsibly new destinations while taking time to have direct contact with local communities. The project will deliver a set of 26 new ST products created by local Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and ICT enterprises thanks to financial and technical support called Product Development and Innovation Facilities.

Les Garrigues in a Motorhome

This is a circular motorhome trip around the Vinaixa Valley. Remember to bring your bike and some comfortable shoes with you. On this trip – which barely covers 50 kilometres – you can explore charming villages and areas at your own pace.

Itinerary

All year round

Arrival to the village of L’Albi, where you’ll stay at a charming municipal motorhome site surrounded by pine trees. We recommend going for a stroll through the centre of this lovely village, exploring it at your own pace and doing some shopping at its farmers’ co-op. In the evening, you’ll have dinner at a restaurant with the seal of quality. Here you’ll get to try local food that’s in season.

Whenever you’re ready, you can drive to Fulleda, a small village located at the interfluve between La Granada and Els Escortals valleys, where you’ll spend the next two nights.

While on your way, we recommend stopping by Tarrés, a small village with narrow streets and stone houses, which is about 10 kilometres away. You can shop for some local produce at the old winemaking co-op and El Sindicat. Stroll along Carrer de l’Església until you get to the Church of Santa Maria Assumpta and Plaça de la Font.

You can spend the day in Tarrés or continue to Fulleda, which is just 10 kilometres away.

The small village of Fulleda is located around the Tower, an ancient fortress of which only a few vestiges remain. The village’s charm lies in its narrow streets, the parish church of Santa Maria and its local co-op.

Explore the surroundings of Fulleda. At the agreed time, a guide will arrive with bicycles to take you on a cycling excursion to discover an environment brimming with nature and heritage in the Vinaixa Valley. You can enjoy a picnic during the excursion before heading back to the motorhome.

On the way to Les Borges Blanques, we recommend visiting the charming villages of L’Espluga Calba and Els Omellons.

L’Espluga Calba boasts a stone castle dating back to the 13th century and a Baroque church from the 18th century. If you wish, you can also visit an ancient oil mill, which is found at the local co-op.

The village of Els Omellons is characterised by the way the slopes are used to grow olive trees, almond trees, barley and grapevines in the form of terraces.

Take as much time as you need to explore these two villages at your own pace.

Begin with you travelling directly to the village of La Floresta. You’ll take a guided tour of a famous 14th-century castle and its ice well.

Vinaixa has a parish church dedicated to Sant Joan Baptista built in 1301 in Romanesque style. It also has an ancient gateway on the Carrer del Forn. There’s also the Shrine of Sant Bonifaci, which you can get to on foot or by bike as it’s only seven kilometres from town.

You can continue on your way or stay in town.
