Med Pearls Project
Most models of tourism in the Mediterranean area are based on mass tourism and follow a fragmented vision of the region as a sum of different markets. Med Pearls aims at internationally positioning the Mediterranean as a unique and integral destination to experience the Med lifestyle through SlowTourism (ST), inviting travellers to discover sustainably and responsibly new destinations while taking time to have direct contact with local communities. The project will deliver a set of 26 new ST products created by local Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and ICT enterprises thanks to financial and technical support called Product Development and Innovation Facilities.

Les Garrigues in a Motorhome
The snail’s journey is a contemplative guided motorhome tour. Travelling at a snail’s pace, we’ll visit farms and other points of interest in the region.
Itinerary
All year round
Located to the south-west of the region of Les Garrigues, the centre of Vinaixa is laid out around its ancient castle and boasts numerous pine forests. Meet-up at the motorhome site of Vinaixa. Presentation breakfast and short briefing on the trip.
Time in La Pobla de Cérvoles to visit the centre of the village, its co-op and buy local products.
Excursion and tour of the Mas Blanch i Jové winery. Here we’ll find incredible works of contemporary art by Gregorio Iglesias, Esteve Casanoves and Josep Guinovart on display in the open-air museum called Vinya dels Artistes (‘artists’ vineyard’). Time for the activity to experience and understand the entire process of winemaking with a guided tour of the winery, from the vats and barrels to bottling. The tour will end with a wine and olive oil tasting.
Guided tour of the winery and wine and olive oil tasting at Mas Blanch i Jové included.
On an unstructured journey spanning 75 kilometres, we’ll come across picturesque mountain landscapes with views of the Serra de Montsant Nature Park. We’ll also visit small villages in search of their local co-ops so we can buy local products and we’ll intermingle with the locals.
Continuing in slow mode, we’ll continue on our way until we get to the town of Flix, which sits on the banks of the Ebro River in the region of Terres de l’Ebre.
Free time to explore the area and visit the Seves Nature Reserve, one of the most important natural spaces in the Terres de l’Ebre. The unique location of this natural space is the reason why there’s an animal population of great interest, most of all birds.
We’ll take a guided tour of the Bovera Valley and lunch. Some areas of this valley are experiencing a reactivation, with the creation of organic products alongside the promotion of the conservation of their agricultural, landscape, natural and cultural heritage.
This way, during the guided tour of the valley, we’ll come across traditional architectural elements that have been restored and get a first-hand look at organic farming and the biodiversity project featuring Catalan donkeys (‘rucs’) in place here. At the end of the activity, we’ll have lunch.
Rest, explore the village, get to know its people and go on an excursion nearby.
A short trip in the motorhome to climb to the top of the valley and take in views of the Bovera Valley. From a lookout point, weather permitting, we’ll be able to see the path that took us to this amazing location on the horizon.
We’ll visit the Olive Oil Museum of Catalonia. This museum interprets ancestral olive oil production facilities such as the ancient oil mill, the best-preserved one in the region. At the end of the tour, you can buy local products at its local co-op.
Guided tour of the Bovera Valley and lunch and Entrance ticket to the Olive Oil Museum of Catalonia included.
Depending on the time of year, at this small family farm – which boasts centenary olive trees recovered from the region – you can enjoy experiences related to olives and oil such as watching how olives are harvested, how these arrive to the olive mill, a workshop on the maceration of table olives or a workshop on how to make oil lamps.
Enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant with a seal of quality to try local dishes made with locally sourced products.
Olive oil experience/workshop (depending on the time of year) at the Olicatessen estate included.
